When you lead something, you have to make decisions.

I am a Christian.

Therefore, I make my decisions based on the counsel and the wisdom of the Bible.

I totally get that it can be unpopular as a non profit leader to be out front with what you believe because of the potential of alienating future donors who don’t hold the same beliefs.  I am OK with that.

But, I felt it necessary to state how I make decisions for Patch Our Planet so that you can better understand the inner workings of this organization.

By Faith
Jesus said, “…if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 (NKJ)

I want to be a mountain-mover, so I do my best to make decisions by faith– “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 (NKJ)  That does not mean that I forgo any planning or preparation.  To the contrary, I believe God honors diligence.

By Trust
Another important element of decision making for me is to be a full hearted follower of God and to trust Him completely. I trust him with decisions, finances, direction, donations, strategy…you name it, He always provides.

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:4-5 (NKJ)

By Expectation
My wife has a quote in her Bible in the book of Matthew that says “Blessed is the man who expects nothing, for he will never be disappointed.”  I wish I knew who to attribute that little proverb too, but I don’t.

I have some great big expectations for Patch Our Planet.  Those expectations keep me going.  They keep me excited.  They keep me focused.  And, they remind me that there is an urgency to what we are doing.

Maybe you have lost heart in the process of making decisions.  Below is one of my all time favorite verses that I taped to the bathroom mirror when I was out of work at one time.  I hope that this verse, along with the video, will serve as an encouragement to you today as it did to me.

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” Psalm 27:13-14 (NKJ)

What about you?
I would love to hear how you make your decisions.
